The
Internet has been highly commended for introducing a new, progressive era. With
the rapid development of information technology, information is readily
available; and doubtlessly it has greatly changed our lives. Gone are the days
of handwriting letters and checking movie times in the newspapers. However, I
find the disadvantages of the Internet are more terrible.
Nowadays,
just with a click of button, the Internet will give us a treasury of knowledge
immediately; but a plethora of information is not necessarily a good thing. In
the age of information explosion, information is so superfluous that many
people, including me, can’t absorb completely. Also, to pursue high
clickthrough rate, most online media will post unproved news to catch our eyes.
What’s more, people in modern society tend to seek excitement in cyberspace or
constantly check their Facebook updates when having dinner with family. As a
result, the relationship with others seems to be more distant.
Some
people may argue that there are some ways to solve those problems. We can pick
many quality websites such as New York Times or BBC to visit, which may broaden
our perspective. And we should learn to think critically, to differentiate the
truth from the false in these Internet articles. Additionally, some people
counter that they have to use social media in the computer age, or we will not
keep up with others and be left behind.
I
partly agree with their arguments. We can visit the good, trustworthy websites
to get free and convenient information. But this way is not practical, for most
people have been accustomed to reading short, funny articles through the
Internet. They, especially young people, will not read articles in the New York
Times as they are so long and hard to understand. Consequently, the Internet does
cause harm to most people and often instill them with misinformation. Furthermore,
if you don’t use social media, you actually will not be isolated. The
relationship will build only when we interact with each other. As long as you
have good character and the will to establish relationship with others, you
will have friends.
To
summarize, although the Internet provides me with many benefits, I’m still
against it. It makes relationships between us more and more distant, and most
people nowadays lose the ability to concentrate on long articles of high
quality. In my opinion, the drawbacks the Internet brings outweigh the benefits.
With the development of technology, VR (virtual
reality) is getting more and more popular in recent years. VR is the use of
computer technology to create a simulated environment. Instead of viewing a
screen in front of them, users are able to interact in the 3D world. In
addition, to improve and make the users have better experience, the VR try its
best to simulate as many senses as possible. As a new technology, VR may have
many potential risks; however, it broadens our horizons in the ages to come at
the same time.
VR can be very helpful to our society if we utilize it
effectively. First, VR can be applied in some professional training, like pilot,
who can flying in the simulated sky without danger. Moreover, VR can rebuild
the crime scene to help the police solve a case. Second, VR has been used in
many recreation facilities, which can assist modern people with reducing life
pressure. Third, in the future, we can expect that VR will be largely exploited
when teachers are teaching any project or news anchors are broadcasting on TV.
VR can bring about more awareness by showing the real situation in front of students
and audiences.
But VR has some disadvantages that need to be solved
at the same time. First of all, VR may put our healthy in danger. For example,
some people reported that they would feel dizzy after using VR for too long,
which is called VR motion sickness. Furthermore, some doctors are worried that
if VR has been widely used in games, it may lead many people to game addition.
Although VR has many controversies, we could break all
these problems down in the future. For the health problem, many researchers
have dedicated to find causes and solution. Thus, those who look forward to VR believed
that the problem can be settled in the years to come. As for the game addition,
the government can legislate that how long a day players can participate in, which
may prevent players from neglecting work and lessons.
To sum up, VR’s advantages outweigh disadvantages. In
spite of the fact that it has some unsolved issues, VR is still very useful to
our daily life. We should learn to adapt to a new technology with a broad mind
instead of resisting to accept technological innovations in our society.
